As you have probably surmised from the severe lack of posting lately, it's been a busy month. I believe I left off at getting a new job, selling our house, getting new glasses (which I promised to post pictures of and still haven't), moving in with Nick's parents and getting a brand-new baby niece.
That in itself sounds like a lot, but there's even more.
After we moved in with the 'rents, we were tasked with remodeling our room in lieu of paying rent for the first month. We spent a whole weekend painting every square inch and making some updates. Over a month later, we still haven't quite finished. (Note to the general public: never hire us to do your remodeling.) As our rent from here on out, we were originally going to tackle a different room each month and paint and update it as well, but I think we've all learned that just writing out a nice little check to dear old Mom and Dad will work out much better.
Our robot business is also eating up a lot of our time. We knew once we moved out of our house that we would need a studio space to work in. We had a place in mind that's just two blocks away from our future downtown loft and went through the application and interview process last week to see if they would take us. We were accepted this past Tuesday and spent all weekend getting our space ready. We had to paint (we just can't seem to get enough!), build shelves, find and assemble a workbench, attach a door, add lighting and move all of our tools, parts, robots and a futon in. It was no small task, especially in 90-degree weather in the top floor of an old un-airconditioned warehouse. We're trying to get ready for First Friday this coming Friday, so every night this week will also be spent down in our studio space getting settled and building some more robots. Oh yeah, and we also have to build another one of these this week.
We're so excited about the 'biz and will post a link once our website is up. It just takes so long to get it all developed, but we're definitely making progress. Slow but sure, right? We printed up some neat-o stickers too and will be happy to share them with whoever wants one. Don't all raise your hands at once now! (By the way, I'll be posting pics of them soon so you know what you're getting yourselves into. Let's just say they are pretty darn nerdy.)
Aside from all that, there's also been weekly kickball to keep up with. Nick plays and I usually cheer the team on from the safety of the sidelines. He also plays basketball one night each week, something which I take no part of because of course I'd much rather be home living it up with the parents. Nick is also taking 7 credit hours this summer trimester, which is not exactly fun when you work all day, work in the studio all night and then have to do homework (or watch your spouse do homework, as the case may be) later. We're also just crazy enough to make time to visit our nieces every once in a while so that we can take in some more of that New Baby Smell and hang out with our dear little self-described Big Girl. There's a lot of other things we've been fitting in lately, such as a trip out of town, a few birthday bashes, some robot part hunting and some other boring stuff that could put you to sleep. So before that happens, I'd better stop rambling and go do something domestic around here.
